The Federal Government has reiterated its readiness to collaborate with the Afrigroundnut Farmers Association of Nigeria (AGFAN) and other agricultural groups to enhance productivity, create jobs, and drive sustainable economic growth across the nation.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume, CON, made this known today, 31st March, 2026 in Abuja when he received the delegation from the Afrigroundnut Farmers Association of Nigeria (AGFAN) led by its President, Abdullahi Muhammad Isa.

SGF, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office(GSO) Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, mni, highlighted the strategic importance of groundnut production to Nigeria’s economic history and future growth, stressing that groundnut is not just a staple food but a critical driver of the economic development of Nigeria. Citing historical precedents, he recalled how the famous groundnut pyramids of Northern Nigeria significantly contributed to the country’s GDP in the 1940s and 1950s and played a role in financing early oil exploration efforts.

Sen. Akume seized the opportunity to thank the Association for supporting the Tinubu-led Administration and also canvassed for the support of the Association to mobillise its members across the 36 States to support the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tiunubu. He assured of Federal Government’s commitment to support the Association and the agriculture sector at large to boost food security and economic development of the country.

Speaking earlier, the President of the Afrigroundnut Farmers Association of Nigeria (AGFAN), Abdullahi Muhammad Isa, assured the Federal Government of their readiness to operate within a sustainable framework, noting that any support received—whether in the form of inputs (seedlings, fertilisers), equipment etc—would be repaid through increased productivity, economic returns, and contributions to national development. He stressed that mechanization remains a critical factor in achieving large-scale agricultural productivity, improving farmers’ access to modern tools, and enabling Nigeria to compete globally through increased exports and foreign exchange earnings.

Malam Isa reaffirmed Association’s unwavering support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, pledging to mobilize its nationwide membership base towards ensuring electoral success in the 2027 general elections.

“We have collectively taken a position to support the APC as the platform that reflects our aspirations and offers the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s development. Our members are fully mobilised and committed to this course,” he stated.
